MLM Introducing: Yatesy - Make Me Feel [MLM022]

Salford's Yatesy is a DJ and producer driven by creating feeling through his music, from high-energy moments to deeper, soulful connections. Inspired by the raw character of early 2000s tech house, his sound brings together elements of disco, funk, Latin and house, blending groove and character with a clear focus on the dance floor.

The Inspiration

I've always taken appreciation to the art of resampling. So many iconic records were created from flipping unnoticed pockets of sound that when chopped, pitched or sped up differently created something really unique and memorable. 'Make Me Feel' is a great example of this. Alongside a funk inspired bassline and groovy drums the track has multiple resampled elements of synths, vocals and hooks. The B side 'Just Listen' shows a deeper, more club focused part of my sound, with stabby synths, piano hits and Latin percussion. Both tracks really showcase the direction my sound is heading in.

The Family

By far this is the release I’m most proud of. Not just the music, but how organic this connection came together. Luciano has always been a huge inspiration of mine and I've sent him a lot of music over time, so when he connected with these tracks and the conversation developed into releasing on MLM I didn’t hesitate. Machaca La Membrana feels unique to a lot of labels, there's real care behind each release and every record feels special. Exciting new artists are being introduced and I love how Luciano continues to fully support the music and make it a staple of his sets. It feels more than simply signing records, Machaca feels like a family, one I'd love to be a part of long term.

The Future

My next steps are to continue producing and building natural relationships with artists whom I genuinely respect and am inspired by, as well as continuing to develop my sound and build a discography I'm proud of. I was a DJ first and still am, so I'd love to get more opportunities to connect with people on the dance floor too. Release-wise, I’m in talks with a few labels and artists on things but confirmed I have a release coming with Glasgow Underground TBA soon. And who knows, maybe there's more music to come one day with Machaca La Membrana ;)
